This 20 page Instruction Manual was produced, in 1946, by the Plimpton Engineering Company for the first post-war BAYKO sets. |
This version was superceded, probably late in 1947 or, possibly, in early 1948, by an updated version, with the differences detailed below. |
It now seems pretty certain that there was an earlier version with an error, on page three [right], the page which shows the contents of the sets of the period. |
It is not immediately clear whether this was simply a type-setting error, or something a little more fundamental... |
I will add further information as soon as I am able - please excuse me, I'm in mid house move at the moment. |
When set #3 was introduced in 1948, this manual, or its later equivalent, was still included, along with a specific set #3 manual. |
. |
It comprises 20 pages, printed in red and black on white gloss paper, with a full colour cover. |
Size 220mm x 141mm = 8.7 x 5.6 inches. |

The pages highlighted in yellow, below, show differences from the later version. |
Most of the differences are the use of ½ Brick Rods in the later version and, for some reason, a reduction in the use of Tie Bars in the later version. |
Page 4 is particularly interesting as it makes reference to BAYKO set #5 - post-war remember!!! |
Pages 19 and 20 show photographs of BAYKO models incorporating pre-war Large bases and Wall Capping - in a post-war manual remember!!! |
