BAYKO Adverts in Scotland

The 'Daily Record' is a national daily newspaper in Scotland.

Here we have a mix of five different adverts which include BAYKO, from just four issues of the 'Daily Record' - the last two both appearing in the same issue on November 27, 1959.

As you can see, three of the adverts are private affairs, inserted by just two different toy shops. There were plenty of other toy shop, or department store toy department adverts, but those shown here were the only ones which actually mention BAYKO.

The remaining two are fully fledged BAYKO adverts, each accompanied by its retinue of "classified advertisements" for local BAYKO suppliers.

Following the MECCANO takeover, there were no further mentions of BAYKO in any adverts that I could find.

1959, November 27th

Coincidentally, there are again five adverts which mention BAYKO in the 'Glasgow Evening Times', though the breakdown of them is different to that in the 'Daily Record' above.

Here three of the adverts are fully fledged BAYKO advertisements, though my favourite one is the MECCANO products advert [left] which includes both a mention of BAYKO and part of a BAYKO building which the young lad is staring at longingly.

Again the policy of encouraging retailers to place classified adverts which ride on the coat tails of the main product advert is very much in evidence - though it's a shame that none of those associated with the MECCANO era advert actually mention BAYKO.
